Across the state of Indiana, there are 92 Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) - one in each county. Soil and Water Conservation Districts are self-governed subdivisions of State government.
The purpose of an SWCD (also referred to simply as a “District”), is to:
• Provide residents with information about soil, water and related natural resource conservation
• Identify and prioritize local soil and water resource concerns
• Connect land users to sources of educational, technical and financial assistance in order to implement conservation practices and technologies.
The St. Joseph County SWCD works hand-in-hand with state, federal, and county agencies and departments, other conservation organizations, schools, and other community partners to achieve our conservation objectives.
This includes a dedication to reaching out to our community and providing educational opportunities to our county’s citizens.
